UNDERSTANDING LIGHT QUALITY: A GUIDE TO CCT & CRI
Correlated Colour Temperature or CCT is simply a way of categorising the particular hue of white light a source produces. It sounds odd that white lights aren’t necessarily white, but we experience the same thing in nature every day.

INGRESS PROTECTION (IP)
When selecting lighting for different environments, especially in areas exposed to dust, moisture, or harsh conditions, understanding IP (Ingress Protection) ratings is essential. An IP rating is an internationally recognised standard (IEC 60529) that classifies the degree of protection a luminaire provides against the intrusion of solid objects (like dust) and liquids (such as water).

IMPACT PROTECTION (IK)
IK ratings are an important measure of a luminaire’s durability and resistance to mechanical impact. Defined by the international standard IEC 62262, the IK rating indicates the level of protection the enclosure provides against physical impacts, such as vandalism, accidental knocks, or environmental wear and tear.

EMERGENCY SIGNAGE
These standards ensure that emergency lighting and signage are effective, reliable, and compliant, keeping occupants safe in all situations. The current internationally recognised format has a pictogram and arrow, and the wording is optional. It is not permitted to mix the different designs

Emergency Lighting: Ensuring Safety and Compliance
Emergency lighting is a vital component of any building’s safety system, providing illumination when normal lighting fails due to power loss. Designed to guide occupants to safety and maintain visibility in critical areas, emergency lighting plays a crucial role in reducing risks during evacuations and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

COLOUR CONTROL (CCT) & BRIGHTNESS (LUX) CONTROL
Lighting quality depends on two key factors: colour control (CCT) and brightness control (lux). Correlated Colour Temperature (CCT) describes the colour appearance of light, measured in kelvins (K). Lower CCT values (around 3000K) produce a warm, yellowish light, while higher values (5000–6500K) create cooler, bluish light.
